Artist Statement:
My screenprint collages appropriate illustrations from the early to mid-twentieth century and expands upon or operates completely outside the domestic, gendered social and artistic context from which they originally sprang. Boys are perhaps caught in feminine moments or girls become autonomous explorers. Whatever the new narrative is I want to approach both the subject and its surroundings with humor, playfulness and allow them to exist with innocence and away from preexisting social conditions like blue is for boys and pink is for girls.
